Christians mark Christmas Day as an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Celebrated on December 25, the popular modern customs of the holiday include attending special church services, spending time with family members, wearing new clothes and eating a festive meal, gift giving, Christmas music and caroling and the display of various Christmas celebrations include Christmas trees, Christmas lights, nativity scenes, garlands etc. Some may also display small electric lamps or small clay oil-burning lamps and decorate their homes with banana or mango leaves and put a nativity scene with clay figures or a Christmas tree.

Christmas trees in India are usually imitation pine trees or branches of native trees or bushes. Some stores and malls may put up Christmas decorations and have actors playing Santa. Christmas Day is a gazetted holiday in India. It is a joyous time of Christ centered celebration. The Christmas season is the best time to demand a gift from the eternal god, Jesus.
